Job Summary: The Fisheries Liaison will serve as an outward-facing representative to the fishing community and will primarily be responsible for developing and delivering and leading the implementation of our California fisheries program. This program will include a range of components, such as outreach, communication strategy engagement, project planning, fisheries science, and workforce development.

A.I.S., Inc. (AIS) is a national scientific services firm supporting maritime activities requiring certification of compliance with environmental regulations as well as collecting data for use by Federal, State, Municipal, and other government agencies along the US coastline. AIS is looking for a Fisheries Biologist to support the Fisheries Engineering & Acoustic Technologies (FEAT) team on an ongoing acoustic trawl survey within the Fishery Resource Analysis & Monitoring Division of NOAA.

Fur seals and sea lions on San Miguel Island: a research experience with NOAA

What brought a UW Marine Biology student to California in 2023? Marine mammal research! Ashley Rendon, in her junior year at UW and an Air Force reservist, spent just under a month with NOAA’s Marine Mammal Laboratory on San Miguel Island, the westernmost island of the California Channel Islands.
Finding out about the internship through an email sent by UW Marine Biology adviser Joe Kobayashi, Ashley applied to be a part of the research experience which focuses on population abundance, vital rate estimates, and foraging ecology of California sea lions and northern fur seals.
