As FieldNotes publishes their Spring 2024 edition, we spoke with current editor-in-chief and Marine Biology major, Lauren Grady. A student-run undergraduate journal, students can join the introductory class (C ENV 401), which Lauren attended and then began writing blogs, promoting content, and editing pieces. She has developed her skills in writing, leadership, and science communication, and shared how other undergraduate students from across the UW College of the Environment can get involved.

Succeeding in introductory biology (Biology 180, 200, 220) and other bioscience courses?
Learning, thinking, and writing as scientists?
Joining a diverse community of UW biology students and mentors?
Identifying research, scholarship, and training opportunities?
Want to gain hands-on experience working with K-12 students and earn credit?
The Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) Center offers courses for UW students to earn academic credit while tutoring in K-12 schools and/or mentoring! If you are interested in educational equity and gaining direct-service experience working with K-12 students, then we encourage you to enroll in our courses.
Our courses are variable credit, count towards the ELS and Leadership minors, and are graded CR/NC.
