New Domestic Study Abroad Program in Astronomy
On behalf of the Department of Astronomy, I am writing to ask you to advertise this new and unique opportunity to all of your students. Thank you so much for your help.
We are thrilled to announce a new study abroad program: Voyaging into Pacific Indigenous Astrophysics in Hawai`i.
This 5-credit course (ASTR 190/597) offers both undergraduate and graduate students an immersive experience exploring how Pacific Islanders have navigated vast oceanic distances using traditional knowledge of the stars, winds, waves, and marine life.
Study Abroad – Greece Program
We are a serious-minded study abroad program whose chief mission is to see undergraduate research being published in refereed journals. We have already published two such papers and a third has been accepted. Our focus this summer is on sustainability in the Eastern Mediterranean. We believe our program is an important part of internationalizing students’ education.

This covers everything from program types to timelines to credits to funding & scholarships.

Hundreds of thousands of US students take part in study abroad programs each year, earning credits towards their degrees while immersing themselves in different cultures around the globe. This National Science Foundation-funded program takes place in Santa Elena Bay, located on the northwest Pacific coast of Costa Rica. A unique oceanographic feature of this region is the seasonal upwelling also known as the “Papagayo Upwelling” which brings deep cold and nutrient-rich water to the surface during the trade wind season, driving high productivity and biodiversity in the area.
