Majors must graduate within credit and term limits defined by the University of Washington policy for undergraduate satisfactory progress or have an approved academic plan to exceed these limits.

  • Double or triple major: 210 credits and 12 academic-year quarters (not including summer)
  • Double degree: 225 total credits and 12 academic-year quarters
• Multiple majors beyond these credit and term limits may still be approved after review of a proposed academic plan.

• Courses meeting general education requirements can also meet the same requirements for other majors without restriction.
• General education requirements are defined by the college or school the major is associated with. If you add a major outside of the College of the Environment, you may be responsible for additional courses. Review the requirements by college and school or check a degree audit (DARS) for other majors to see how the requirements vary.

• Courses meeting ‘foundation science and mathematics’ requirements for the Marine Biology Major can meet requirements for other majors without restriction.
• This includes courses for the chemistry, biology, statistics, math and physics requirements.
• Specialized courses for these requirements, including OCEAN 295: Chemistry of Marine Organic Carbon and FISH/MARBIO/OCEAN 270: Aquatic Ecophysiology may also overlap without restriction.

• No more than 25 total credits of departmental major requirements other than foundation science and math may be applied to departmental requirements of other majors.
• Courses counted towards the 25 credits can be changed and updated.
