One of the primary goals of The Next Swell™ is to award scholastic scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in a marine science field. In the spring of 2021, we were able to award three scholarships of $2,000 and in the spring of 2022, we were able to award four scholarships of $3,000. This year we will be awarding multiple scholarships of $5,000.

We are hosting an information session for the NOAA Hollings Scholarship on Wednesday, November 30th at 4:30pm in FSH 207. Freshmen and Sophomores are encouraged to attend. Sophomores already intending to apply for the Hollings this round may benefit from this information session, though we will have a short series of more targeted workshops to help these students with applications starting December 7th.

Inviting Applications in November, 2022
In honor of Caroline Gibson’s enduring love and commitment to the Salish Sea, the Northwest Straits Foundation is pleased to invite applications for the Caroline Gibson Scholarship in Marine Studies.
Scholarships support current college students pursuing applied academic studies in marine science, policy, education and management of the Salish Sea.
Three scholarships of $3,500 will be awarded to undergraduate or graduate students in the Puget Sound region including British Columbia.
Mary Gates Scholarships
Mary Gates scholarships provide $5,000 ($2,500 per quarter for two quarters) for students to pursue leadership or research activities. The Mary Gates Endowment for Students supports University of Washington undergraduates to become independent learners and community leaders through research and leadership scholarships. We encourage students’ development of creative, courageous ideas and efforts.

I am writing to make you aware that the Kurt Grinnell Aquaculture Scholarship Foundation is now accepting Scholarship Applications. Applicants must be enrolled Tribal Members in the United States or enrolled Members of First Nations in Canada. Additional qualifications are set out in the web site at https://kurtgrinnellscholarship.org/.We will award a minimum of two scholarships, one in the U.S. and one in Canada, with scholarships awards in the range of $5,000 USD each.
