The Mary Gates Scholarships, supported by the Mary Gates Endowment for Students, are open to all UW undergraduate students, including all class years, all majors, and all residency statuses (US citizens, permanent residents, international students, and undocumented students are all eligible). Benefits
Mary Gates scholarships provide $5,000 ($2,500 per quarter for two quarters) for students to pursue leadership or research activities.
Workshops: NOAA Hollings Scholarship
We are hosting workshops this coming Winter Quarter on January 9th and January 23rd at 4:30 pm in FSH 203 for any UW students planning on applying to the NOAA Hollings Scholarship. The upcoming workshop sessions will be structured around applicants being paired with graduate student mentors to receive multiple rounds of feedback on the written components of the application, as well as help with filling out the rest of the application form.

Applications Now Open for 2024 Undergraduate Fellowship Opportunity at GCOOS
Applicants are invited to apply for a six-month fellowship/scholarship opportunity for undergraduate students offered by the Gulf of Mexico Coastal Ocean Observing System (GCOOS), a member of the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing System that provides timely, reliable, accurate and on-demand data and information on the open ocean and coastal ocean waters of the Gulf of Mexico to ensure a healthy, clean, productive ocean and resilient coastal zone.

Richard E. Fitzner Memorial Scholarship Fund
$2,500 towards tuition for wildlife-oriented biology students during the fall of their junior or senior year.
Biology major entering their junior or senior year. Preference given to applicants with financial need, experience in the field of wildlife biology, and superior grades.
Set up for success: attend workshops to develop skills needed for competitive applications for the Hollings Scholarship and other opportunities
Are you interested in applying for internships, scholarships, or research experiences this year? Perhaps you are interested in the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, or are a first or second year student interested in the NOAA Hollings Scholarship?
If so, you are highly encouraged to attend two upcoming workshops that will teach you all about two of the most important aspects of putting together a competitive application for opportunities in the marine and aquatic sciences: Securing letters of recommendation, and writing compelling statements.
Hollings Scholarship Info Session Wed 11/15 4:30 pm (FSH 207)
We are hosting an information session for the NOAA Hollings Scholarship on Wednesday, November 15th at 4:30pm in FSH 207.
Freshmen and Sophomores are encouraged to attend. Sophomores already intending to apply for the Hollings this round may benefit from this information session, though we will have a short series of more targeted workshops to help these students with applications starting later this month.

Juniors or Seniors who are wildlife-oriented? This WATWS RICHARD E. FITZNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP may be right up their alley!
Preference will be given to students with a demonstrated need for financial aid; a history of experiences, activities, and interests in the field of wildlife biology; college course work applicable to field biology; and grades.
All applicants must complete and submit a Scholarship Application Form.
Udall Undergraduate Scholarship
Udall Undergraduate Scholarship – a $7,000 scholarship for sophomores and juniors who are committed to making a difference in either the environment or Native American/Alaska Native Tribal Policy or Native Healthcare. US citizenship or permanent residency required.
Apply for UW nomination by 1/10/24.
Four nominations are available for students committed to environmental careers and four for students interested in Tribal Policy/Native Healthcare.
Undergraduate scholarships supporting student leaders/activists/change agents
These are scholarships that don’t see as many applicants, even though we know UW students are deeply engaged and active in their communities, so hopefully with encouragement from trusted advisers and mentors, we can encourage them to learn more and apply!
Mary Gates Leadership Scholarships – $5,000 for UW undergrads actively engaged in any kind of project, effort, community work, club, etc.
