What are you doing this summer?  I know winter quarter just started but applications for summer research opportunities have already posted and the deadlines start in February.
SAFS graduate student, Markus Min, is hosting a workshop to discuss how to find and apply for summer internships, research opportunities, and jobs on Friday, January 19th, at 3:30 pm in FSH 108. This workshop will help you navigate the world of summer opportunities for students in the aquatic sciences. 

We are hosting workshops this coming Winter Quarter on January 9th and January 23rd at 4:30 pm in FSH 203 for any UW students planning on applying to the NOAA Hollings Scholarship. The upcoming workshop sessions will be structured around applicants being paired with graduate student mentors to receive multiple rounds of feedback on the written components of the application, as well as help with filling out the rest of the application form.

Not Mars: Tools to Save Our Home Planet is a one-night, multi-speaker event, bringing together Patagonia’s activist heroes to share lessons learned, practical tips and personal stories to turn your climate anxiety into climate action. Hosted by journalist Yessenia Funes, this special event will inspire seasoned and newly curious activists with inspiring conversations from a diverse group of speakers, including community organizer Nikkita Oliver, author Bonnie Tsui, climate activist Jamie Henn and surfer and ocean advocate Greg Long among others. 

My name is Gabriel Navarro and I am director of outreach for Net Impact, a business sustainability club open to all students focused on education, activism, and professional development in the sustainability space.
We are having an upcoming event titled “Policy to Practice: Decarbonizing Washington through the Climate Commitment Act” an event where legislators and industry leaders will be present and share their insights on the future of our state and sustainability.

Are you interested in applying for internships, scholarships, or research experiences this year? Perhaps you are interested in the National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, or are a first or second year student interested in the NOAA Hollings Scholarship?
If so, you are highly encouraged to attend two upcoming workshops that will teach you all about two of the most important aspects of putting together a competitive application for opportunities in the marine and aquatic sciences: Securing letters of recommendation, and writing compelling statements. 

The Career & Internship Center and the UW Alumni Association are proud to co-host a series of Alumni Panels throughout the 2023-24 academic year. Next week we’re excited to offer the following session, where students will be able to hear tips, experiences, insights, and recommendations from 2-4 UW alumni. The panel discussion will start as a moderated panel, and then move into an open Q&A with the audience. 

We are hosting an information session for the NOAA Hollings Scholarship on Wednesday, November 15th at 4:30pm in FSH 207.
Freshmen and Sophomores are encouraged to attend. Sophomores already intending to apply for the Hollings this round may benefit from this information session, though we will have a short series of more targeted workshops to help these students with applications starting later this month.
