The Opportunity
Four Peaks has an employment opportunity for an environmental scientist to support our growing fisheries and water resources practices. The position will be based out of Wenatchee, Washington, but will support work throughout the Pacific Northwest. The successful candidate is expected to support a broad spectrum of data collection in the field, monitoring, scientific instrumentation, and basic data processing skills. Projects frequently entail significant complexity and require multiple timelines, coordination with scientists and engineers to resolve complex issues, or long-range projects that span multiple seasons. The position will provide ample opportunities to work on important environmental challenges facing our clients and rapidly grow into an increasingly responsible position within the firm. We expect to fill this vacancy as a staff-level scientist and will prioritize candidates with a sound technical skillset and an enthusiasm for taking on new challenges.
Summary of Duties
The incumbent will perform a wide range of tasks to support environmental studies related to fishery and water resource issues in the Pacific Northwest. Anticipated workload is as follows:
- Assist in planning and carrying out field activities for fisheries and water quality evaluations throughout the Pacific Northwest, with occasional support in other regions of the country.
- Assist in planning and executing data collection for various environmental assessments, often in remote locations.
- Use specialized techniques and methods to collect biological and physical environment data from field and/or facility investigations. Collect biological samples ensuring correct documentation, reporting, storage, transport, and delivery of samples taken.
- Assist in performing general maintenance required for equipment upkeep and maintenance including hand tools or power equipment, with emphasis on sampling in remote or aquatic environments (boats, trailers, ATVs, etc.).
- Enter, organize, clean, and perform preliminary analysis of collected data using R or Python.
- Compile and clean historical datasets for analysis using R or Python.
Qualifications
Required
- Undergraduate degree with 1+ years of relevant industry or consulting experience
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Basic data management and processing skills using R or Python
- High level of motivation and willingness to take on a wide range of tasks
- Ability to travel or work remotely for extended periods (2-3 weeks)
- Ability to lift 70 pounds
- Valid driver’s license
Desired
- Ability to operate watercrafts
- Experience with fish, wildlife, and botany in the Pacific Northwest
- Experience working at hydroelectric or irrigation projects
- Experience with surgical fish tagging
