Odegaard Writing & Research Center Now Hiring Peer Tutors and Student Assistants for 2024-2025
The Odegaard Writing & Research Center (OWRC) is hiring for multiple hourly Peer Writing Tutor and Student Assistant positions for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.
The OWRC is an interdisciplinary writing and research center that aims to support UW students, staff, and faculty on their diverse writing and research projects through one-to-one tutoring sessions, group tutoring sessions, workshops, and other programs. Our tutors are undergraduate and graduate students from a wide range of academic fields, and we provide a rich learning environment for writers and tutors alike. We consistently hear from student employees that their work here is challenging and transformative.
OWRC Peer Writing Tutor Job Description
Peer Tutors support writers’ ongoing writing and research development using a non-directive, conversational tutoring approach. They engage in reflective practice and empathetic listening, show respect for writers’ language choices and linguistic resources, and bring a willingness to learn and improve as a tutor. Tutoring is an intellectually and emotionally demanding position that requires high levels of initiative, responsibility, and critical thinking. This is an hourly, in-person (on campus) position.
OWRC Student Admin Assistant Job Description
The Student Admin Assistant primarily assists with the day-to-day operations of the OWRC through office and programmatic support. They are the face of the OWRC, welcoming writers to the center, facilitating appointment transitions, and offering professional and friendly customer service. Additionally, the Student Admin Assistant will assist OWRC staff with projects that contribute to the growth and enhancement of OWRC programs. This is an hourly, in-person (on campus) position.
Undergraduate tutors and student assistants are currently paid $19.97/hour and graduate tutors are currently paid $20.97/hour. We encourage applicants to bring their materials to the OWRC and discuss them with our current tutors—just make an appointment and come by.
