How to REU Workshop Jan 30th
Your local AFS subunit is hosting a How to REU Workshop on January 30th from 2:30-4pm in FSH 106 for undergraduate students who are interested in paid summer research opportunities! Please RSVP if you’re interested in attending, though we also welcome people to drop in as you’re able.
Are you looking for research experience?
Do you want to be paid while you get research experience?
Do you want to work with prestigious scientists from all over the country and the world?
You should REU!
Research Experiences for Undergraduates, or REUs, are highly competitive paid summer research fellowships funded by the National Science Foundation. Students apply to work with researchers at host institutions to gain research experience and professional development.
The deadlines for many REU opportunities are in February, so now is the time to work on applications and make sure you are considered for this coming summer.
At this workshop we’ll:
- Talk about what REUs are and why they benefit you
- Demonstrate how to find REU experiences
- Describe the application process and provide a timeline for finishing application materials (you should start now!)
- talk about tips and tricks for a strong application
- pair students up to provide peer feedback (optional!)
- provide a space to work on your applications and ask questions as you go
We welcome undergraduate students of any level to attend. Bring your in-progress applications to get feedback, or show up ready to learn about REUs for the first time.
When: January 30th 2:30-4pm
Where: FSH 106
