LEAPS: Winter 2025

The LEAPS (LEarning And Professional Skills) program is back for winter quarter, and our theme for this quarter is navigating the summer internship application process. Application deadlines for opportunities typically range from late January through early March, so there’s no time to waste!

Here is our schedule for the quarter:

Application Tips II: Finding summer internships and research experiences

2:30 PM on Thursday, January 16 in FSH 102

Description: How do you find and apply for summer opportunities? We’ll talk application timelines and components, useful job boards and opportunity aggregators, and tips for handling the rejection that you will inevitably encounter along the way.

Application Tips III: Writing Statements

1:30 PM on Thursday, January 23 in FSH 207

Description: Almost every application has a written component. So how do you write compelling statements? In this workshop, we’ll talk about how to understand what reviewers are looking for, how to avoid writing generic statements, and talk about best practices when writing statements.

LEAPS Office Hours:

Time/location TBD

Description: Opportunities to chat with current UW graduate students and get help with summer application materials, job searches, and answer any other questions that you might have! This is your opportunity to get 1:1 help from people who have successfully navigated this process.

If you missed the workshops from last quarter (in particular our Application Tips I: Letters of Recommendation workshop), you can find recordings and materials on the LEAPS webpage.

Looking forward to this quarter!
