The University of Washington Tacoma is hiring a Scientific Instructional Technician 2! The Scientific Instructional Technician 2 will provide critical oversight for instructional laboratories in the physical and biological sciences (biology, geology, chemistry, physics) for the sciences and engineering students with primary emphasis on building, equipment, and instrumentation maintenance.

Duties include:
- (1) provision of administrative, logistical, and financial support required for operation of the Sciences;
- (2) instructional support of science laboratories and independent student projects;
- (3) inspect, maintain, operate, and adjust major equipment such as gas chromatograph (GC) with FID and ECD detectors, high pressure liquid chromatograph (HPLC) with multiple detectors, fourier transform infrared (FTIR), mass spectrometer (MS), nutrient analyzer, atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS), and particle analyzer;
- (4) upkeep and student and faculty instruction in the use of large-scale and small-scale, modern field and lab equipment (i.e. fume hoods, microscopes, pipettes, computer software/updates/licenses, plotter, etc.) and laboratory instrumentation

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- A Bachelor’s Degree with major study in a basic applied science AND two years of training, formal education and/or research, training or service laboratory operations experience OR equivalent education/experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Multi-tasking abilities necessary because of the large workload, along with ability to prioritize.
- Ability to work well with a diverse array of faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to make decisions on their own about lab needs, safety issues, and equipment and systems that are in their charge.
- Flexible, enthusiastic, proactive approach to working; Strong organizational skills and experience balancing complex logistics, and simultaneous tasks.

Salary: $4,093 – $5,502 per month
