Hiring Fish Hatchery Technician – Kendall Creek Hatchery

Are you interested in learning about the work performed at a hatchery? Perform scientific, technical, and related maintenance duties at the hatchery, rearing anadromous and non-anadromous species of fish. Provide sustainable fish and wildlife recreational opportunities in the state of Washington by supporting conservation!

With your experience, you will perform scientific, technical, and related maintenance duties, and assist with rearing fish. The optimal applicant leads by example, has a positive can-do attitude, is eager to work hard, and has excellent fish husbandry skills. You thrive on building collaboration and teamwork, and look forward to working with other staff to meet WDFW program goals, answer questions from visitors, and lead tours of the hatchery facilities.

Duties

Fish Culture: 

  • Adult fish handling.
  • Fish feeding.
  • Pond cleaning.
  • Collecting, sorting and spawning of adult and juvenile salmon.
  • Vacuuming and pressure washing the ponds for cleaning.
  • Egg and fish sampling and picking, this includes weighing and counting salmon eggs and removing deformities and egg mortalities. These duties require long periods of standing, careful attention to detail and protocols in often cold temperatures.

Operation and Maintenance of Equipment: 

  • Cleaning adult handling area, vehicles and hatchery buildings and bathrooms.
  • Weed eating, raking, weeding hatchery grounds.
  • Small equipment repair and maintenance.

Public contact and Communications: 

  • Responds to questions from visitors to the facility.
  • Conducts organized tours.
  • Interacts with the public in a polite, professional manner.
  • Identifies the best way to respond when faced with difficult-to-answer questions or when information is not readily obtainable.
  • Follows up to ensure that an answer was obtained.

Salary: $2,805.00 – $3,700.00 Monthly
