Duties
As a Physical Science Technician, you will perform the following duties:
- Lead and supervise moored buoy operations at sea during research cruises. Observe system components that are mounted on moored buoy platforms deployed from oceanographic research vessels and other large ships in a remote, deep ocean environment. Operate and maintain vessel-based oceanographic sensors, meteorological sensors, and mooring equipment.
- Coordinate procurement of mooring equipment and instrumentation. Coordinate shipping and customs processing requirements for shipment of oceanographic instruments and hardware, including hazmat items, to international ports in Asia, Africa, Oceania, Europe, and South America.
- Interface and coordinate logistics between scientific staff and operational staff of Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory’s (PMEL) Ocean Climate Research Division (OCRD) programs. Implement climate program plans and objectives to sustain long-term ocean observations.
