Two open positions in the University of Washington Shipboard Science Support Group
The University of Washington Shipboard Science Support Group is looking to hire two marine technicians.
One position will be the primary STARC contact and USCGC Healy support from the University of Washington and support UW vessel Thompson during the Healy’s off season. We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible.
The second position is for support of the Thompson, Rachel Carson and other facilities.
Both positions involve maintaining shipboard scientific sensors, and their data collection and distribution, coordinating with the science party and involvement in deck operations. Both positions pay $5,500-6,500 per month.

The successful candidate for this position will support USCGC Healy in shipyard and in port for maintenance and instrumentation upgrades during the USCGC season and supplement their schedule with Thompson and Carson support the remainder of the year.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of leading or supporting complex oceanographic operations; vessel management: operations, personnel and scheduling; familiarity with the various requirements of cognizant regulatory bodies (USCG, ABS) concerned with research vessel operation.

The successful candidate for this position will support R/V Thomas G. Thompson and R/V Rachel Carson in shipyard and in port for maintenance and instrumentation upgrades and may be assigned remote work for cruise preparations during a small percentage of the work year.
Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in a seagoing technical position directly related to oceanographic field studies OR Equivalent combination of education/experience.
