The Glass Lab (www.theglasslab.org) is currently recruiting for three positions at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.
For questions, please email Jessica Glass (jessica.glass@alaska.edu).
- Postdoctoral Fellow: Evolution of Ice-Binding Proteins in Intertidal Invertebrates
The fellow will investigate the extent to which IBP production exists and is environmentally correlated across select lineages of intertidal invertebrates that inhabit the Arctic and subarctic. This includes generating genomic and transcriptomic datasets of several species. The project includes fieldwork, labwork, comparative genomic analysis, and coordinating specimen collection.
Start Date: Summer 2024
Salary and Benefits: $67,000 per year (2 years) supported by NSF, including benefits.
Deadline: March 16th, 2024
Application Instructions can be found here. Reach out to Dr. Glass with soft inquiries.
- M.S. assistantship: Developing new environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling technology
The student will work on an interdisciplinary project combining environmental DNA (eDNA) and environmental engineering. The student will work in lab and field settings to test new 3D printed technology for aquatic eDNA collection. A candidate with interest in both genetics and engineering (mechanical or environmental) is desired.
Start Date: May or August 2024
Salary and Benefits: $35,000 per year (2 years) supported by the Office of Naval Research. Tuition, fees and health insurance will be covered by the project.
Deadline: March 1st, 2024
Application Instructions can be found here.
- M.S. or PhD assistantship: Evolutionary Underpinnings of Stress Response in Pacific Oysters
The student will generate transcriptomic and phenotypic datasets for Pacific Oysters and conduct analyses of oysters’ responses to environmental stressors (heat and algal toxins) in laboratory and field settings. A candidate with interests in genomics, conservation genetics, and mariculture is desired.
Start Date: May or August 2024
Salary and Benefits: $37,000 per year (2 years) supported by Alaska Sea Grant. Tuition, fees and health insurance will be covered by the project.
Deadline: February 16th, 2024
Application Instructions can be found here.
