I had such a great time taking over the UW Marine biology instagram, thank you all for tuning in! I loved getting to show everyone what I do at COASST (The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team) and my exciting new position with Washington Sea Grant (WSG).

Being an Intern at COASST has taught me that I love community outreach, science education, and citizen science. My favorite part about the program is getting to interact with volunteers and hear about their passion for conservation.

For the past few quarters I’ve learned a lot about data entry, COASST volunteer trainings, identifying seabirds, and data verification. If you like being involved with citizen science and have a passion for studying indicators of ecosystem health, I would highly recommend getting involved with COASST.

I was also recently given the opportunity to work with Washington Sea Grant as their spring undergraduate science communications fellow. WSG is an incredible program that focuses on marine research, conservation, fisheries aquaculture, and community outreach education.

As the upcoming science communications fellow, I’m eager to strengthen my writing skills and learn more about conservation efforts in the Puget Sound. Visit the WSG website to learn more about science communications and ways you can get involved locally!
