Thanks for tuning in to my takeover! I chose UW because it’s local to me in Washington and it has one of the best Marine Biology and Fisheries programs in the United States.
I’m always stoked to talk about scientific diving – I got my AAUS Scientific Diving Certificate (American Academy of Underwater Sciences) this past summer at Friday Harbor Laboratories (FHL). I saw FHL offering this option and it got me really interested in being able to research while diving intrigued me. Some of the skills you learn is how to dive safely when conducting research, learn how to use general survey methods while keeping an eye on your own safety and those around you. You also learn how to make dive projects and dive plans, based on a whole host of things like location, weather and currents.
I’ve always been interested in salmon but when I got really interested in them is when I took FSH 290, a class on scientific writing for aquatic and fishery science.
I’m currently working on a project that asks how four different taxa of zooplankton are affected by changing environmental and predatory conditions. If you have and more questions or just want to chat, message me! @henrystier
