Aquaculture Position at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai (Kailua Kona, HI)

We are hiring a Natural Resource Specialist with a background in aquaculture. We are also hoping this individual will be capable of leading guest programing and maintaining ponds. The main duties, are not accurately described on the website listing. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the maintenance and any improvement of our oyster production (C. gigas and C. sikamea) and oyster pond, raising and maintaining shrimp (L. vannamei) as well as finding new species to farm for our onsite restaurants. Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing guest and resident interactive programs and tours utilizing all the natural resource assets of the Resort and ahupua’a of Ka’upulehu.
- Conduct aquaculture operations with all Resort seafood products including construction and maintenance of life-support and holding systems, husbandry duties, harvesting and delivery.
- Provide maintenance services for any of the water features within Ka’upulehu as needed and assigned by the Director of Natural Resources.
- Assist in maintaining all of the equipment and tools of the Natural Resources Department.
Promote all our marine programs and our Resort conservation and stewardship activities.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Ability to carry 50 lbs.
- Ability to swim 50 ft.
- College degree in marine science, marine ecology marine biology, or closely related field.
- Experience in developing and implementing education programs. In addition, the individual must be able to demonstrate the ability to interact and communicate very well with Resort guests, residents, and school and community groups.
- Enthusiastic, positive and highly outgoing, with a great desire to learn, improve, and achieve.
- A good understanding of basic water quality, Hawaiian fish identification and ecological concepts.
- Ability to work occasionally in an office setting with skills in word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to work independently, and plan proactively.
- High work ethic, with a keen sense of responsibility for the role filled within a team dynamic.
A valid drivers license. - Successful candidate must possess legal work authorization in United States
