FieldNotes is an undergraduate-run digital and print journal intended to increase public awareness of environmental undergraduate research at UW and provide a platform for students to actively engage in science communication. We are now seeking submissions for our online blog and photo essay sections. While our journal focuses on longer finished research and narrative pieces, our website is an outlet for sharing ongoing environmental research and student experiences through internships and experiential learning, from the PNW to the other side of the world. Blogs and photo essays can be more personal than journal articles, and are flexible in their topic and format!
Blog submissions: Please email email@example.com a max. 500 – 600 words on your topic along with a few pictures of field work, lab work, and highlights of your experiences (Subject line: Blog Submission). Members of our editorial board will help you edit your piece prior to publishing to the blog. For examples and inspiration, check out our existing blogs.
Photo essays: Please email firstname.lastname@example.org a Google drive folder with 10-30 photos you are interested in crafting into a visual narrative (Subject line: Photo Essay Submission). Members of our editorial board will work with you to select photos and develop captions prior to publication. For examples and inspiration, check out our existing photo essays.
Blog and photo essay submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis throughout Spring quarter, but earlier submissions will receive priority!
Thanks for your interest,
FieldNotes Editorial Board
