Marine Biology & Humanities Quarter

A menu of introductory courses perfect for students just getting started with marine biology. Students build a schedule of 3-4 courses out of offerings such as Introduction to Marine Biology, Ocean Circulation and Reading and Writing the Marine Environment
Marine Zoology, Botany, and Genomics Quarter

For juniors and seniors in biological and environmental sciences, the ‘ZooBot’ quarter is a fixed schedule of three courses: Marine Zoology, Marine Botany, and an individual research project mentored by FHL faculty and instructors
Summer Quarter Special Topics

If you can’t commit to a full quarter of study during the standard school year, FHL offers a variety of shorter 5-week intensive courses in summer quarter. Summer quarter courses are available for both undergraduate and graduate students. In some cases, well qualified undergraduates may be admitted to graduate-level courses. A single, intensive, 15-credit research experience for advanced undergraduates. Application is competitive, and allows a small cohort of students to advance their ability to research in the marine environment.

How do I pay for tuition at FHL?
Tuition to attend classes at FHL is almost exactly the same as normal UW tuition with the addition of some lab fees and a required room & board fee for all students. Students can use financial aid to pay to go to FHL, and there are a variety of scholarships available to help make your plans a reality.
I’m currently living on campus in a UW dorm. Does that mean I can’t leave campus to spend a quarter at FHL?
Students accepted to study at Friday Harbor Labs can be released from their housing contract in order to live in the dormitories at FHL.
I missed the application deadline! Did I miss my chance to attend FHL?
Late applications are permitted on a space-available basis. Get your application materials in as soon as possible.
